Unresolved Trauma & Emotional Distress
Understanding how past experiences shape your present reality
We often think of trauma as one massive, life-altering event. But more often than not, it’s the quiet accumulation of things, a sudden loss that left you spinning, a relationship that chipped away at your worth, or years of feeling fundamentally unseen. When these experiences aren't fully processed, they don't just disappear. They get stuck in the body and mind. You might find yourself constantly on edge, waiting for the other shoe to drop, or feeling completely disconnected and numb. If you are exhausted from carrying a heavy weight of anxiety, grief, or an underlying sense of shame that you can’t quite shake, your reactions make total sense given what you’ve been through. You don’t have to keep carrying it all alone.
EMDR: Processing the Pain
How Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps untangle stuck memories
While the name sounds deeply clinical, the process itself is beautifully natural. When we experience something highly distressing, our brain’s natural filing system can get overloaded. Instead of filing that memory away neatly in the past, it gets trapped in our active survival network. This is why a specific situation today can cause a sudden wave of panic, your brain feels like the event is still happening. During an EMDR session, we use alternating left-to-right movements (like eye movements or rhythmic tapping) to mimic what your brain naturally does during deep dream sleep. This jumpstarts your brain's natural ability to digest information. By keeping one foot firmly grounded in the safety of therapy while gently revisiting that old memory, your brain finally gets the chance to re-process it. We aren't trying to erase your history; we are simply taking the sharp "sting" out of the memory so it finally feels like a story from your past rather than an active threat in your present.
The Path to Relief
Creating a collaborative, safe space to heal at your own pace
Healing from emotional distress isn't about rushing to "fix" yourself, and it’s certainly not about forcing you into spaces you aren't ready for. In our sessions, your safety and comfort always come first. Together, we will look at what’s keeping you feeling stuck and map out a path forward that feels manageable for you. Whether we use EMDR or draw from other therapeutic approaches, my goal is to provide a grounded, compassionate, and entirely non-judgmental space. You get to set the pace, and I will be right there with you as we help you find your footing, reclaim your peace, and move into a life that feels lighter.
